The event, running under the heading “What Can the US and Europe still Expect of each other?”, will be held in Loccum from 12 to 14 December 2014. The discussions will deal with the ambivalent development of relations between the U.S. and Europe in recent years, where differences in light of the NSA spying scandal and disillusionment regarding the promotion of liberal democracy stand in stark contrast to the partners’ ever-increasing mutual dependece in asserting common international trade and business interests.
Nelly Stratieva, member of the Executive Committee of CISS’s Impact Group EU-ASEAN Perspectives, will act as a ‘facilitator’ in one of the conference’s breakout groups, which is entitled “Partnering with the Rest of the World”. As such, she will give input on EU-ASEAN cooperation to a focus group of discussants. The Impact Group organizes online and offline events on interregional for students and young practitioners from Europe and Southeast Asia.
One explicit purpose of the conference is to bring together young transatlanticists. Therefore, the organizers are offering a reduced conference fee of EUR 90 (including meals and accommodation) for students, interns and others who are still hunting for a regular policy job. Please mention CISS and the reduced fee when registering via email to marcus.schaper@evlka.de.
For more information, please consult the conference program.
